Sept 25 AM Math/Science:
Today we wrote our Unit 1 Assessment OF Learning. Next day we will be learning about operations with decimals. If there are any cool links, applets, gizmos or videos that you find please save them to your student page so we can refer to them in our upcoming lessons. In Science today we continued to learn about consumers, producers, ominovores, carnivores, and herbivores (see topic 2.1 under Science Unit1). Students are to think of a place in the school where there will be a lot of decomposers and tomorrow we will begin our decomposition experiment.
Today we started our decomposers experiment. We created a rubric for our scientific method write up (please see 2.1 decomposers experiment under the Unit 1 science link). IF YOU DID NOT COMPLETE WRITING UP YOUR QUESTION, HYPOTHESIS AND PROCEDURES, IT IS YOUR HOMEWORK TONIGHT. Be sure to refer to the criteria our class came up with when we made the evaluation Rubric. In PE we challenged the grade 8 class to a rugby game - they were pretty good!
Sept 25 PM Math/Science:
Due to many field trips last week, student in the PM class requested an additional review day before the Math assessment. Tomorrow we will write our Math Assessment for Coordinates and Design. Please review your notes and check out the videos on our wiki under the Unit 1 topics.
In Science today we continued to learn about consumers, producers, omnivores, carnivores, and herbivores (see topic 2.1 under Science Unit1). Please take time to review the video links and play the game if you did not get a chance to in class today. You will need to be familiar with these terms for our decomposition experiment.
Today in Math we wrote Assessment OF Learning for the Coordinates and Design Unit.
Everyone in the afternoon science class has homework tonight (due to early dismissal days and afternoon field trips). But don't worry, it won't take very long! Please go to 2.1 decomposers experiment in Unit 1 and start writing out your scientific method outline for our experiment tomorrow. Please ensure that you include a title for your experiment, our class questions, YOUR hypothesis (please specify where you were going to collect your decomposers from), and the materials that we plan on using. Please refer to the evaluation rubric that our class made so you know the criteria for a good write up. Save your write up to either your student page on the wiki or email it to yourself so you can access it tomorrow. Tomorrow we will be collecting our samples and writing up our procedure.
Sept 24 AM Math/Science - Today we wrote our Unit 1 Assessment OF Learning. Next day we will be learning about operations with decimals. Sept 21 We will recap our Dry Island field trip by researching and answering questions that came up while we were there. We will also be watching an awesome Minecraft video created by some of our classmates that will help us review River Systems: Young river, mature river, old river, oxbow lakes and deltas!!! We have been working on review for our Math Assessment OF Learning for our Coordinates and Design Unit. Please review your practice sheets and go to our wiki math link for games, applets, videos and more! If you need extra practice, please take home your textbook and complete the Chapter 1 review. In Science we will be learning about Producers, Consumers and Decomposers. You can visit Unit 1 Interactions and Ecosystems under the science link on our wiki and preview the topic 2.1 videos and activities. 2.1 Science Worksheet that we were working on in class is HOMEWORK for this weekend if you did not finish it! Please complete!!!! If you forgot your sheet at school then there is a new sheet you can download and print under our wiki science link.
This afternoon we will be attending an author presentation at Lindsay Thurber. Information sheets about this presentation have already gone home.
Sept 20 Today we will be going on our Dry Island Buffalo Jump Field Study for Social Studies and Science.
Sept 19
In Science today we learned about river systems and the development of young rivers, mature rivers, old rivers, and deltas. We made our field booklets for tomorrow's field trip to Dry Island Buffalo Jump. In Math we reviewed Coordinates and Design in preparation of unit test on Monday, Sept 24 Our mini rugby tournament was super fun today!
Sept 18
We in math will be working in small peer and teacher led groups to practice our transformations. In science we will be learning about Producers, Consumers and Decomposers. Today we will be attending the Dawe run in the afternoon. Please remember to dress for the weather and bring good shoes, water and a bag lunch.

Sept 13-14
Please remember to resturn your Dawe Run and Dry Island Buffalo Jump permission forms. Today we will practice problems involving transformations in math. Coordinates and Design Unit test will be next week (Wednesday for AM math class and Friday for PM class) In Science we will be continuing with our discussion and studies for Symbiotic relationships. Please remember to study for your little quiz on Monday.
Sept 12 Today we will be learning about transformations on the Cartesian Plane: Reflection, Rotation, and Translation. Please see the the activities, games and videos under the Math link (Unit1) We will be learning about Symbiosis today (mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism) Please remember to return your Dawe Run and Dry Island Buffalo Jump permission forms.
Sept 11
Today in math we will practice creating designs using the Cartesian Plane. Please see the math link for videos and games to practice plotting coordinates. In Science we will take a look at human impact on ecosystems. We also will take a look at adaptations. On Monday we will be having a little quiz on what we've learned so far in Interactions and Ecosystems (please see unit 1 under our Science link on the wiki to review). **Please remember to bring back the Dawe run and Dry Island Buffalo Jump permission forms
Sept 10 We will be writing our Science Safety Quiz today We will be using coordinates and the Cartesian Plane to create designs in math In Science we will be discussing our Project for our Interactions and Ecosystems Unit (QR Codes for our Living things music videos). We started learning about ecosystems and the basic needs of living things.
Sept 7 Please remember to bring your gym change and gym shoes Please remember to bring back FOIP, Email Agreement and Course Outline forms Please review Science Safety
